How Your Government Will Help
Pitkin County government has partnered with Aspen, Snowmass Village, Basalt, and Eagle County to plan for potential flooding in our area. An Incident Management Team comprised of staff from Fire, Law Enforcement, Public Works, Water Conservation Board, Environmental Health, Community Relations, Colorado Department of Transportation, American Red Cross, Pitkin County Emergency Management, and others has been formed. The Incident Management Team will provide the following services in the event of a flood emergency: Monitor the level of streams and rivers.
Remove debris, where possible, which might impede the flow of water in creeks and culverts in the public right-of-way. Provide estimates about flooding potential. Establish priorities for the protection of life, essential facilities, access roads, bridge structures, and culverts. Warn and advise residents of evacuations through radio, television,"reverse 9-1-1" (hard-wired landlines), flyers, and door-to-door (if necessary) Provide shelters for evacuated people. Help with evacuation of animals. Provide evacuation routes and traffic control. Continue to provide essential services such as fire protection and law enforcement. |
